Exhibition Carpet Terminology

PET Staple Fiber

WILLFLY exhibition carpet is produced from polyester (PET) staple fiber. Barbed needles mechanically entangle the fibers to form a nonwoven web. After needle punching, the carpet web is foam-impregnated with a binder and then oven-dried.

For B2B sourcing, confirm the fiber material, binder application and finished construction in the written specification and approved sample. PET and polypropylene (PP) are different materials and should not be treated as interchangeable descriptions.

Target Weight (GSM)

GSM means grams per square metre and describes the target weight of the carpet. Higher GSM usually means more fiber per unit area, but GSM alone does not determine thickness, density, surface stability, durability, flame performance or suitability for a project.

Compare the complete construction, written tolerances and an approved sample rather than using GSM as a stand-alone quality grade. Target weight can be customized for the confirmed project specification.

Surface Structure

Plain, ribbed and velour describe the visible surface structure of needle-punched exhibition carpet. Selection should reflect the required appearance, expected foot traffic, cleaning method, installation, project duration and budget.

A surface name is not a performance guarantee. Confirm it together with fiber material, target weight, density, backing, color and an approved sample.

Needle-Punched / Nonwoven Construction

Needle-punched means that barbed needles mechanically entangle staple fibers instead of weaving yarns into a fixed pattern. This manufacturing method forms the nonwoven carpet web used for exhibition flooring.

Nonwoven identifies the construction method; it does not by itself guarantee service life or compliance. Performance depends on the complete construction, backing, installation and any applicable test requirements.

Foam Binder Application and Oven Drying

After needle punching, the carpet web is foam-impregnated with a binder and then oven-dried. This finishing step helps stabilize the roll for handling, cutting and installation. It should not be confused with PVC, bitumen or another heavy backing system.

Binder application, finished construction and performance must be confirmed in the written specification and approved sample. Optional temporary protective film can be applied to the carpet surface for site-construction protection and removed before the exhibition opens.

Installation Method

Installation should be planned by the flooring contractor according to the subfloor, venue rules, project duration, pedestrian load and removal requirements. Temporary projects may use approved tape or another installation system, but compatibility, residue, fire rules and removal should be tested before installation.

Confirm roll direction, seam layout, edge treatment and surface protection before work begins. The supplied carpet specification and approved sample should be available to the installer.

Color, Dye Lot and MOQ

Colors may be selected from available swatches or developed for a confirmed project. Because staple fibers are blended and production conditions vary, shade differences can occur between batches. Confirm an approved color sample, acceptable tolerance, total quantity per color, packing and labels. Our normal MOQ is 2,000 m² per color.

For repeat orders, do not assume two production lots will be visually identical. Provide the previous order reference and request a new color confirmation when needed.

Roll Width, Roll Length and Quantity Tolerance

Common widths are 1.5 m, 1.83 m, 2 m, 3 m and 3.96 m, with a maximum width of 4 m. Common roll lengths are 25 m, 30 m and 50 m; other lengths can be customized. Final roll format must be confirmed in the quotation and production specification.

Also agree the quantity tolerance, treatment of short or non-standard rolls, labels, packing and loading plan. Do not assume every production roll will be identical unless the purchase specification states the accepted tolerances and inspection method.
